Mike has 30 years of experience in Intellectual Property and protection and exploitation of Innovation issues, both nationally and internationally.

In January 2013, he was appointed by the President of Mexico as Managing Director of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), a position he held until November 30, 2018. During his tenure at the Institute, the most ambitious reform in trademark matters was carried out, and the foundations were laid for the new Federal Law for the Protection of Industrial Property in 2020.

He also served as Chairman of the APEC Intellectual Property Rights Experts Group, chaired the Madrid Assembly of WIPO and participated in the negotiation rounds of TIPAT - CPTPP, T-MEC (Mexico, United States, Canada) and the Mexico - European Union Free Trade Agreement.

Mike holds a law degree from Universidad Panamericana and a LLM from Cambridge University.



  • Led the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property as Managing Director.

  • Represented the APEC Intellectual Property Rights Experts Group as Chairman.
  • Served as Vice President and spokesperson of the Intellectual Property Rights Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico.
